Mercedes-Benz Cars has achieved its best sales year in the company’s history after selling 1,285,900 vehicles during 2007.
Including the Mercedes-Benz AMG, Maybach and smart passenger cars, worldwide sales increased by two per cent to set the new record.
Chairman of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr Dieter Zetsche, said: "Our current models are drawing a very positive customer response. In 2007 we succeeded in laying the groundwork for sustainable, profitable growth, particularly with the market launches of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the new smart fortwo."
In Western Europe (discounting Germany) the company achieved a new sales record, selling 372,400 vehicles, a three per cent increase on the 361,200 models delivered in 2006.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was a big factor behind the successful sales figures, becoming the top selling model.
Also performing well was the smart fortwo which saw sales of the two-seater model climb by 43 per cent over the course of the year.
Sales of the Maybach vehicles also confirmed the luxury status of the Mercedes-Benz brand with 400 models delivered worldwide during 2007.
