Both Mercedes-Benz and smart are at the forefront of developing vehicles that run on electric power but are fully suitable for everyday use, it has been stated.
Mercedes-Benz has developed the B-Class F-CELL, which could prove a suitable vehicle for longer-distance travellers through having a range of 250 miles before it needs recharging.
Meanwhile, the smart fortwo electric drive may be a wiser choice for city drivers, with the two-seater able to run for almost 84 miles before running out of power.
Dr Dieter Zetsche, Daimler CEO and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: "As a global supplier of premium cars we want to meet the mobility requirements of our customers all over the world.
"The smart fortwo electric drive and the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL are already demonstrating the contribution that electric cars can make to sustainable mobility."
Both vehicles are already available to customers and can be driven without generating any local emissions.
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL also has a top speed of 106 miles per hour.
