smart to unveil limited edition three in Geneva

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 26th, 2009, 11:02:53

The chic appearance of the smart fortwo edition limited three is to be shown to the world for the first time at the upcoming 79th Geneva Motor Show.

Among the features of the latest instalment of the iconic vehicle is the fact that it boasts "exclusive elegant paintwork and a spring-like fresh interior design concept".

To help welcome in the change of season, smart has opted for melon green metallic paintwork, while the exterior will be "rounded off by aluminium-effect ‘limited three’ logos in the mirror triangle".

On the inside, the colour scheme of spring is continued in the fabric design, as shades of brown create "a stylish contrast", while dark brown leather covers the sports steering wheel and gear knob.

Buyers may wish to know that the limited edition vehicle is available as both a cabriolet and a coupe, while other appealing features include electric windows, air conditioning and a panoramic roof with sunblind.

Furthermore, power steering, heated seats and a lockable glove compartment are available as optional extras, alongside the smart sound system.

The Geneva Motor Show kicks off on March 5th.

Watch a film in a smart fortwo

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 23rd, 2009, 15:02:08

Cinema fans in Australia are to witness a new way of watching films as they will be able to enjoy the entertainment from the inside of a smart fortwo.

Visitors to Melbourne’s QV centre will be able to sit inside one of nine of the smart vehicles that are parked in front of a cinema screen, making the viewings an exclusive affair.

As the smart fortwo is a two-seater vehicle, a maximum of 18 film lovers will be able to watch a showing at a given time.

Through watching a film from inside one of the iconic city cars, guests will be blessed with a large amount of leg and shoulder room, while also enjoying the vehicle’s comfortable offset seating.

The showings will also offer all motorists the opportunity to view all what the smart fortwo has to offer, as motorists will not need to drive their own vehicles into the viewing.

Meanwhile, the smart fortwo is currently starring alongside actor Steve Martin in The Pink Panther 2, where it is the vehicle of choice for the film’s lead character Inspector Clouseau.

smart fortwo cdi is ‘a very smart proposition’

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 23rd, 2009, 11:02:09

A reviewer for the Manchester Evening News has been left impressed after taking the new smart cdi for a spin in the Eastlands area of the city.

According to Simon Donohue, the cdi is a "very smart proposition indeed", particularly when used in inner-city areas.

He notes that the gearing in particular is perfectly suited for tight city streets, traffic lights and the regular stop-starting associated with driving in heavy traffic.

What’s more, he says the car doesn’t lack for speed in its natural habitat.

Perhaps the smart cdi’s chief selling point, though, is its fuel economy.

"The cdi’s biggest boast is that it is powered by the smallest direct-injection diesel engine possible," Mr Donohue writes in a blog for the newspaper’s website.

This means that between 80 and 89 miles can be achieved before refueling is necessary, which it makes it the most fuel-efficient production car in existence.

Production of the smart fortwo cdi is scheduled to commence in March 2009.

smart rewarded with energy efficiency award

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 13th, 2009, 07:02:46

The smart fortwo’s ability to offer drivers more miles for their fuel while generating low quantities of CO2 has helped it scoop another award.

For the second year in succession, the smart fortwo has claimed the ecoENERGY for Vehicles award, which the manufacturer was presented with at the Canadian International Motorshow.

The award is handed to the most fuel efficient model in the two-seater range and
President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada Marcus Breitschwerdt was proud that the manufacturer was being recognised.

He said that that it showed recognition for the company’s efforts towards environmental leadership.

"Not only is the smart fortwo produced in one of the most modern and environmentally friendly plants in the world, its excellent fuel economy and low vehicle emissions have made it a hallmark for fuel efficiency, functionality and fun." Mr Breitschwerd explained.

The vehicle was first made available to Canadian motorists five years ago.

It was recently confirmed by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that an advertisement suggesting that the smart fortwo can complete a 433 mile trip from London to Edinburgh and back on one tank of fuel was not misleading.

The ASA explained that there was enough evidence available to show that the figures were correct and could be achieved.

Kids encouraged show driving skills at Mercedes-Benz World

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 10th, 2009, 14:02:58

Encouraging youngsters towards starting their motor racing careers at a young age is one of the main aims of Mercedes-Benz World during the upcoming half term week.

The week runs between February 14th and 22nd and youngsters will be encouraged to take advantage of a number of opportunities.

They will be able to show if they have the early skills to be the next Lewis Hamilton by getting behind the wheel of a smart car or Mercedes-Benz A-Class in the Kids Driving Experience at the Brooklands circuit.

Meanwhile, they will be able to enjoy presentations and overviews of the performance branch of Mercedes-Benz, AMG.

Peter O’Halloran, managing director of Mercedes-Benz World, said: "Lewis Hamilton’s success both on and off the track has been phenomenal; he is living proof that it pays to start young."

Youngsters will also be able to witness the Formula One racing car used by Hamilton in 2007 at the Fascination of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport exhibition.

Other events to be held at the Surrey venue this year include the Double Twelve Brooklands Motoring Festival, which takes place in June.

smart fortwo witnesses strong January

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 10th, 2009, 11:02:56

It has been a strong start to the new year for the smart fortwo, as the latest figures show the vehicle has witnessed an increase in sales.

Overall, Mercedes-Benz sold a total of 62,200 vehicles during January and the smart fortwo was the vehicle which witnessed the best individual results.

Worldwide deliveries of the compact car grew four per cent on year-on-year figures, with 8,300 units sold this year compared with 8,000 in 2007.

Currently, the innovative two-seater is available on five continents in 37 markets and this is set to increase this year with it being introduced in the likes of Brazil, Denmark and China.

There was also a promising start to sales of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which was made available in western Europe on January 12th.

To date, 30,000 orders for the vehicle have been received and this is ahead of the market launch that will take place in March.

Meanwhile, the smart fortwo plays a big role in the upcoming film The Pink Panther 2, being the vehicle of choice for the film’s lead character Inspector Clouseau.

smart fortwo takes lead role in The Pink Panther 2

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 5th, 2009, 15:02:09

The compact dimensions and superior agility of a red smart fortwo coupe has helped it become the vehicle of choice for Inspector Clouseau in the latest Pink Panther film.

Steve Martin is to again star as the bumbling inspector in The Pink Panther 2 and he uses the vehicle in a breakneck dash through the Paris city jungle.

One of the highlight moments in the film is when Martin struggles to find a parking space as his chases thieves into a busy airport in Paris.

However, because of the vehicle’s small dimensions, Martin is able to park the vehicle perpendicular to the flow of traffic before continuing with the chase.

Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice-President of Brand Communications at Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: "smart is the optimal company car in the movie".

"smart and the main character stand for unusual ways of thinking, irresistible charm and cleverness – and therefore have extraordinary success."

The Pink Panther 2 also stars John Cleese as Chief Inspector Dreyfus, Jean Reno as Clouseau’s partner Ponton and Emily Mortimer as the love interest Nicole.

Boris advised to tackle congestion the smart way

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 5th, 2009, 15:02:07

Encouraging more motorists to drive smart cars is an alternative way of tacking congestion in London, the iconic automotive brand believes.

London Mayor Boris Johnson has created a ‘Way to Go’ document to discuss a variety of transport issues, including ways to cut congestion in the capital.

As an alternative, research by Capita Symonds has found that an increased use of small vehicles, such as the smart fortwo, could help alleviate the problem.

The results showed that small cars hold many benefits over medium-sized vehicles, including more small vehicles being able to pass through a set of traffic lights.

Dermot Kelly, Managing Director Mercedes-Benz UK, said: "We’ve suggested to the mayor that he could improve traffic congestion in London by encouraging the use of space-efficient cars, like the smart fortwo.

"The fortwo’s exceptional fuel economy, reduced CO2 emissions and the fact you can park two smarts in the space of one regular car, can only be positive news for the capital."

A review of the smart fortwo from the television show Fifth Gear stated that the vehicle "offered bags of driving fun".

How to get from London to Edinburgh the smart way

Posted by admin in category Uncategorized at February 4th, 2009, 13:02:21

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that the smart advertisement suggesting that a motorist could drive from London to Edinburgh on one tank of petrol is not misleading.

Investigations have taken place by the ASA and it has supported the advertisement by the iconic automotive brand.

The advertisement shows a time-lapse sequence with the two-seater vehicle completing the 433 mile trip on a 33-litre tank of fuel.

The authority deemed that evidence provided by Mercedes-Benz alongside figures from the VCA offered enough proof that a smart car could do as the advertisement suggested.

Dermot Kelly, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: "We’re delighted that the ASA has vindicated our position, on what is a very solid environmental and economical message, and decided to reject the complaints.

"The television ad demonstrated that a drive from London to Edinburgh is proven to be well within the capabilities of the smart fortwo on less than one 33 litre tank of fuel."

A smart fortwo pulse coupe proved to be a reliable ally for a motorist last year, as he used one of the vehicles to complete a 2,100 mile round trip from Gloucester to Italy and back to raise money for a hospital.
