Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class models help drive sales performance

The growth of Mercedes-Benz continues to be driven primarily by the E-Class and S-Class models, the German carmaker has confirmed.

This assertion follows the announcement that worldwide sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles continued to increase in August.

"We will be presenting a further highlight of our product range at the Paris Motor Show, where we will present the all-new generation of our styling icon, the CLS," explained Dr Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars.

"The car will set new standards, thanks to its fascinating design, comprehensive range of safety features, and the new, fuel-efficient V6 and V8 BlueDIRECT gasoline engines."

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz announced that a total of 5,800 smart fortwo were sold last month, which represents a decrease of 18 per cent on August 2009.

The company does, however, expect demand for the innovative two-seater to pick up again, when the new generation of the smart fortwo is launched on the market in October.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class ‘set for launch at Paris Auto Show’

A new all-electric version of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class model is to be launched shortly, Reuters reports.

Dubbed the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-Cell, this limited production model is being developed together with Tesla and will reportedly make its world debut next month at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

Although few details have been released, the report observes that the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-Cell is expected to have a range of about 124 miles and a peak output of 214 pound-feet of torque.

"The battery pack is a lithium-ion type built of 4,000 individual cells and is rated at approximately 40 kilowatt-hours," the news provider said.

Meanwhile, motoring enthusiasts have been encouraged to attend this year's smart festival, which will take place at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, David Williams said that the festival coincides with the tenth anniversary of the arrival of right-hand drive smart models in the UK.

Festival-goers will even get the chance to test-drive the new smart fortwo electric drive, he explained.

Get green at smart festival 2010

Whilst smart festival 2010 is sure to be more fun than you can shake a smart car at, it doesn’t mean that we’re not responsible.

You’ll find a flock of green features nestling alongside the more random events like the smart fortwo egg and spoon challenge and competitions for ‘best dressed smart’, because we thought you’d be up for getting involved in the eco-fun stuff as well.

We have also got our eco driving guru Mick Linford on hand to play teacher with a classroom-style Q&A on how to get the most from your smart. No need to worry about having to write lines or do homework though – Mick promises to make the session informative without getting anyone into trouble! Petrol heads encouraged to attend smart festival

Motoring enthusiasts have been encouraged to attend this year's smart festival, which will take place at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, David Williams explained that the festival coincides with the tenth anniversary of the arrival of right-hand drive smart models in the UK.

"Festival-goers will get the chance to drive the new smart fortwo electric drive, which uses lithium ion battery technology and can be charged from a standard 13-amp socket," he commented.

Other attractions of the festival include the smart arrows formation driving team, a display of models from the Brabus collection and driving games, including smart football.

Since the brand was launched in the UK, more than 75,000 smart cars have been sold.

According to Gary Savage, Managing Director at Mercedes-Benz Cars, the smart fortwo gb-10 edition is a clear indication of how the brand has evolved.

Hi There,

This week has flown by, with a lot of my time spent on smart (I look after Mercedes customer communications too!).

Now that the smart festival is only a week away, I’ve been talking to our events team about all the final details of the day. We have lots of things planned, and in particular I can’t wait to see the smart silver arrows driving display and the competition cars. We’re also working on something very cool, which will remain a secret until the day… All I’ll say is make sure you bring your camera with you.

I’m pleased to announce that we’ve also just launched our smart car page on Facebook this week! It will share smart news, pictures and videos with Facebook members. We’ll be uploading pictures from this year’s smart festival so you can tag yourselves in the pictures and share with your friends. There will be a photographer stood at the entrance snapping every smart car that arrives, so make sure you visit to tag yourself!

And we’ve had news of another smart special edition called the ‘lightshine’, which will have our new diesel engine in, which only emits 86 grams of C02! It’s got lovely light green matt panels – I can’t wait to see it for real

A smarter Holiday

Hi, my name’s Joe and I’ve just started here at smart. It has been a pleasant surprise to discover such a vibrant online community centred around destinationsmart.co.uk, news.thesmart.co.uk and @smartfortwoUK. It’s especially heartening to know that there’s such affection for what is obviously a very cool city car, but also a brand committed to environmental issues. Needless to say, I’m hooked but I don’t think my girlfriend quite understands.

She’s keen for us to take a little holiday before Summer completely gives way to Autumn, and thought she’d found the perfect camping break over the weekend of Saturday 4^th of September. smart fans will see my dilemma.

I’m hoping the fantastic footage we get at smart festival 2010 will help her understand why I’ve chosen not to take her up on her offer. In fact, I’m sure that when she sees the events, entertainments, and exhibitions she’ll be hoping she can tag along to next year’s festival! Until then, I’m being extra nice – it’s the smart thing to do.
